- EUB Hearing: Shell no longer opposes the Park. In September and October 2007, a hearing was held in the Pincher Creek Community Hall as an opportunity for the public to provide input to the Energy and Utilities Board on Shell's proposal to drill an exploratory well at (and put in a pipeline to) Mt Backus, west of Beaver Mines. This was the first time in years that a well proposal on public land was close enough to people's dwellings that a number of people could intervene.
A very important part of Shell's testimony in response to a question from CCWC in cross examination was that Shell no longer opposes the idea of a Park in the Castle. The EUB panel Chair reiterated the question as his first question to Shell.

- The 2006 Rosenberg International Forum on Water Policy, Program Synopsis & Lessons for Canada & Alberta http://rosenberg.ucanr.org/forum5.cfm See Upland Watershed Protection, p. 91: "As the Oldman River Basin has already been identified as a water-scarce region in which over allocation could potentially lead to conflict over water use, its upper reached may be a good candidate for special watershed protection. The proposed 1400 square kilometer Andy Russell-I'tai sah kop park at the headwater of the Oldman has the highest recorded annual precipitation and snowfall along the eastern slopes of the Rockies in Alberta. While the proposed park would cover less than 4% of the area of the Oldman Basin, it annually generates some 20% to 30% of the river's annual flow. Within this small area are 26 headwater streams and rivers which feed the Castle, Oldman and Waterton systems. Not surprisingly, it is also an area of great natural beauty. Protecting such a valuable upland region will pay for itself over and over again in the value of ecological services it provides alone."
